WORKSHOP 8:
OARSI classification criteria for spine osteoarthritis
Speakers: Manuela Ferreira & Jan Hartvigsen
Organisers:
- Prof. Manuela Ferreira
- Dr. Alessandro Chiarotto
- Prof. Jan Hartvigsen
Short description
OARSI has initiated a process towards developing classification criteria for spine osteoarthritis (OA). Members of the steering committee will present results of the first steps in the criteria development process followed by a structured nominal group technique to reach consensus on potential criteria.
Full description
The multiprofessional and international OARSI initiative focused on developing classification criteria for people with spine OA (inception: September 2025). The first step focuses on the generation of potential inclusion and exclusion criteria with the involvement of patients, clinicians and researchers.
The aim of this workshop is to reach consensus on refining the previously generated list of potential criteria. To accomplish this aim, the results of previous sub-steps in generating the criteria will be presented and discussed with the workshop attendees. Subsequently, a structured consensus nominal group technique will be implemented with the workshop participants to further refine the list of potential criteria for spine OA. Such list of potential criteria will be then presented to patients in an international patient survey to evaluate if any key criteria are missing, and to rate their importance. This workshop will be an integral part of the OARSI initiative effort to develop and validate classification criteria for research purposes for spine OA.
